Amtrak, CDOT, and their partners have been hard at work making improvements to Chicago Union Station, both inside and outside the station. Click here for an overview of recently completed and projects underway at the station.
While these improvements are being made, Amtrak, CDOT, Metra and RTA and their design team are planning and conducting preliminary engineering for 13 near-term projects identified in the 2012 Master Plan. Click here for a list and description of Current Design Work. This process will include developing and evaluating several alternatives for each of the 13 projects, which will include input from stakeholders and the general public. After the alternatives have been evaluated and a preferred alternative is selected, funding will need to be identified and secured before final design and eventual construction can be completed.
The 2012 Master Plan also included several higher level, long-term ideas for improvements for Chicago Union Station. Those are detailed here.
